Our mission is to lead the way on financial literacy, business forecasting and growth. It comes from a strong desire to demystify business finances and to help more owners to unlock the potential inside their businesses. 

The founder of Porterdale is Steve Carroll, who has a wealth of experience working with hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses for over 20 years. 

Steve says, “We simply didn't want to see any more business owners having sleepless nights. We want to relieve business owners of the pain caused by not having the right information. We don’t want to see customers struggle. We care and can be trusted. And we love it when the penny drops.”

With over two decades worth of commercial experience, Steve brings an unparalleled level of expertise to his role as a Sheffield-based business advisor. As a former Finance Director at various £5m to £25m turnover companies and 7 years at a leading international advisory firm, Steve has extensive experience in areas such as company acquisitions, disposals, cash flow management, and raising finance.

He is a Chartered Management Accountant and is licensed by CIMA to ensure his services continue to meet the highest professional standards. Steve's passion for business growth extends beyond his work at Porterdale, as he also spent several years as an Access to Finance Advisor with the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub. During this time, he and his team supported over 1,000 businesses with their growth plans, delivering over £40m of capital grants to unlock over £100m of projects. Steve's dedication to helping businesses succeed makes him an asset to the South Yorkshire business community.

In July 2019, he was appointed as a Business Growth Advisor with Business Sheffield, where he helps other businesses in the area to achieve their full potential. And that's not all. In the same year, Steve also launched Clearview Hub, a free financial forecasting software tool that has been helping businesses across the UK to better control and predict their finances. The Clearview Hub community continues to grow, providing a space for business owners and anyone involved in business finance to access free templates, tools, and guidance. It’s all part of Steve’s personal mission to improve financial literacy amongst the business community no matter your background or financial education.

Lindsey Owen

If you're looking for a financial controller to give you ongoing advice and finance process reviews, look no further than Lindsey Owen. With over 20 years of experience in accounts, she has held senior roles in both small and large companies. Lindsey joined Porterdale in April 2021 and has been providing part-time support to clients ever since. She is a great fit for companies that need extra accounts and finance help but may not require a full-time staff member. Lindsey has also been involved in two business relocation projects and is familiar with a variety of systems, including Xero, Sage and Excel.
